A citizen’s petition to “Form a metropolitan park district in University Place” has qualified for the April 26, 2016 ballot. At the same election that the proposition is submitted to the voters as to whether a metropolitan park district is to be formed, five park commissioners will be elected.
A copy of the petition text can be found on our April 26th Special Election webpage. The ballot title and explanatory statement will be posted as soon as they have been prepared by the attorney for the City of University Place.
Candidate Filing Period – February 22 - 26, 2016
Election of Commissioners (Positions No. 1 – 5)
Individuals wanting to serve as Commissioners for the new district must file for office during the candidate filing period. File online at PierceCountyElections.org Candidates must file for a specific position. This will be the only election held for these offices.
- Candidates must live within the proposed district (City of University Place).
- Must be a registered voter at the time of filing.
The online candidate filing period for the five commissioner positions will begin at 9:00 am February 22, 2016 and end at 4:00 p.m. on February 26, 2016. In person, filing at the Pierce County Election Center, 2501 S. 35th St. Suite C closes on February 26, 2016 at 4:30 p.m.
Once a candidate filing has been approved, the candidate will receive an email with a link to submit their voter’s pamphlet statement and photo online. The statement and photo submission must be submitted online no later than 4:30 p.m. on March 2, 2016.
The election of park commissioners shall be null and void if the metropolitan park district is not created.
