The 2014 General Election was certified by the Pierce County Canvassing Board today, bringing the election to a close. Results are available on the Pierce County Elections website (www.piercecountyelections.org).
The Canvassing Board has ordered a recount for one race. Pierce County Council District 7 is separated by just 93 votes or .00224, requiring a manual recount. Manual (hand count) recounts are triggered if the difference between the candidates is less than one quarter of one percent (.0025) and also less than 150 votes.
A recount is defined as the process of retabulating the votes for a specific office or issue on all valid ballots cast in the election. It is not a recanvass of individual ballots; all questions of voter registration, voter qualification, and voter intent previously considered during the original count shall not be reconsidered during a recount of the original ballots.
The recount will be conducted December 1 – 4, 2014. The Canvassing Board Meeting for the Certification of Recount will be held on December 4, at 3:30 pm.
An interested parties briefing will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at 1:00 pm in the Pierce County Election Center. The briefing will include:
- An overview and timeline
- Recount procedures and processes
- Observer guidelines
This meeting is open to the public.
