The following is a statement by Pierce County Executive Pat McCarthy on the May 23 passing of Herman Dillon Sr., chairman of the Puyallup Tribe of Indians’ tribal council:
"Herman Dillon Sr. led with kindness, humor, strength of character and a balanced perspective. A thoughtful and selfless man, he was respected by all who had the good fortune to know him.
"Chairman Dillon’s lifetime commitment to the Puyallup Tribe and its progress is evidenced in many ways, including his involvement in the landmark 1988 Puyallup Tribal Settlement Agreement, prosperous economic development programs, a commitment to fisheries enhancement and advocacy for education, health care and housing. He leaves an amazing legacy.
"On behalf of Pierce County, he will be greatly missed."
