Application Deadline:

Applications for the RCW 26.09 Guardian ad Litem/Parenting Investigator and the RCW 11.88 Guardian ad Litem Certified Registries will be accepted January 1, 2009 through March 20, 2009. Both Certified Registries are effective July 1, 2009 - June 30, 2010. You may obtain your application packet in Superior Court Administration, 334 County City Building, Tacoma, WA 98402 or by clicking on the links below.

Only applications with the revision date of 10/15/08 will be accepted. No late applications shall be considered. If you have not attended the required training by the application closing date, you may timely submit your application and indicate when and where you will be attending the training. Once the training is completed, you must immediately forward a copy of your Certificate of Attendance to the Superior Court Administrator.

The RCW 11.88 Guardian ad Litem certified registry is available for pickup in room 334 of the County-City Building, in Tacoma.

NOTICE: With regard to the RFP contract information for the 11.88 GAL position, please check our web site in July for further information.

To properly complete your application, please return a signed original hard copy application, in one packet, including the following:

1. Signed Guardian Ad Litem Registry Title 11.88 application. Guardian ad Litems currently serving may submit the 'Re-newal Application'. All new applicants and GALs who have served in the past will need to submit the new applicant 'Application'.

2. Signed Policy 4, Code of Conduct, also set forth in Pierce County Local Rules and GALR 2 of the Washington State Court Rules.

3. Washington State Patrol background check dated after January 1, 2009. You must send this form directly to the Washington State Patrol with a check for $35 payable to the Washington State Patrol. You are both the ?applicant? under Section A and the ?requester? under Section B of the form. DO NOT SEND THIS FORM OR MONEY TO SUPERIOR COURT. Please do not delay sending this form to the Washington State Patrol, as it may not be returned to you for several weeks.

4. Curriculum vitae or Resume.

5. Policy 3, Administrative Policy. You need not return Administrative Policy 3, and should retain it for your reference.

6. If at anytime while serving on our registry you need to be removed, please complete the Declaration of Voluntary Resignation form and submit it to Superior Court Administration, attention Kristine Maine.


Applicants new to the registry are required to complete both days of the two-day mandatory Guardian ad Litem training. Returning Guardians ad Litem with no break in service are required to complete only the second day of the training.


PLEASE INCLUDE THE RCW NUMBER (RCW 11.88 or 26.09) OF THE APPLICABLE REGISTRY ON ALL CORRESPONDENCE YOU SEND TO THE COURT. All required information must be received by Superior Court Administration by application deadline.
