Home Earthquake Retrofit Information Series Booklets
The Home Earthquake Retrofit Information Series booklets are intended to promote public safety and welfare by helping you, the homeowner or contractor, reduce the risk of earthquake-induced damage in the existing wood-frame residential buildings.

The booklets in this series are listed below. The booklets are available in .pdf format only. In order to view the .pdf files, you must have Adobe(R) Acrobat(R) Reader installed on your system. You can download the Adobe(R) Acrobat(R) Reader software at no cost.

Home Earthquake Retrofit Booklets
Overview: The Overview summarizes the information contained in each of the series booklets, provides general information on why it makes sense to strengthen residential homes to reduce earthquake-induced damage, and introduces the advantages and limitations of the voluntary SHER Planset. Appendix A of the Overview contains a Definition of Terms.

Guide to Completing the Home Assessment Checklist: The Guide to Completing the Home Assessment Checklist provides detailed information to help you determine if your home qualifies to use the prescriptive requirements and if earthquake retrofit work is needed.

Guide to Completing a Home Earthquake Retrofit Plan for Wood Framed Residential Buildings: The Guide to Completing a Home Earthquake Retrofit Plan for Wood Framed Residential Buildings shows you how to complete a plan for your own earthquake retrofit project according to the minimum prescriptive requirements in the SHER Planset. The earthquake retrofit plan is submitted to the building department as part of the permit application.

Appendix : Includes appendices covering definitions, basic concepts for earthquake resistant design, hazard assessment checklist, additional construction details, and nail and lag screw size and identification diagram.
