The Tacoma Narrows Airport Advisory Commission (TNAAC) was established by adoption of Ordinance No. 2003-44s2 with an effective date of October 3, 2003. This legislation is confirmed in Pierce County Code, Section 2.89.
The function of the TNAAC is to serve in an advisory capacity to Pierce County and City of Tacoma officials regarding issues affecting the Tacoma Narrows Airport and its surrounding neighborhood. The TNAAC will consider regulatory, contractual and economic issues related to the airport together with concerns of Peninsula area residents. The TNAAC does not perform any final legislative or quasi-judicial decision-making role in matters related to the airport. The TNAAC will provide comments on a variety of development plans affecting airport property as well as the properties within 1,000-feet of the airport. Membership: The TNAAC consists of ten voting members and three government ex-officio members. The voting members represent Gig Harbor Peninsula residents, airport business operators and pilots. There are two additional ex-officio non-voting members representing the Peninsula Advisory Commission that will participate in the review of the Airport Planned Unit Development (PUD) process.

Meeting Time and Dates: As an advisory commission, the TNAAC receives information and listens to suggestions and concerns from airport business owners, pilots, neighborhood citizens and the general public. The TNAAC typically holds meetings on the final Thursday of the month, however, meeting times, dates and locations are subject to change. The Commission may hold special meetings outside of their regular meeting times and dates. Visit this site periodically to view future TNAAC meeting schedules. The duties of the TNAAC members include: The following information describes the functions of the TNAAC as codified in Pierce County Code, Section 2.89.110.
- Develop an understanding of the regulatory, contractual and economic issues that are involved in the airport operation, as well as an understanding of the existing character of the adjacent area and the concerns of Peninsula area residents. The City of Tacoma and the County shall provide information and training to the TNAAC on its areas of responsibility.
- Review of the PUD for the Tacoma Narrows Airport. TNAAC?s role in PUD review shall replace the role of the existing Gig Harbor Peninsula Advisory Commission, described in Chapter 2.58 PCC, provided that two members of the Gig Harbor Peninsula Advisory Commission shall be appointed as ex-officio, non-voting members to participate with the TNAAC in review of the Airport PUD.
- Review of the Tacoma Narrows Airport Master Plan/Airport Layout Plan, the Gig Harbor Peninsula Community Plan, the Pierce County Comprehensive Plan, all implementing development regulations, and any subsequent amendments to these documents as they affect the Tacoma Narrows Airport for consistency and make recommendations for reconciling any conflicts.
- Provide representatives to work on committees related to airport development planning as needed, including, but not limited to, work on an airport business plan to identify operation and development strategies appropriate to provide sufficient revenues and appropriate uses to support airport operations.
- Monitor the airport operations and development for compliance with the terms of the PUD approval and the Airport Master Plan/Airport Layout Plan.
- Conduct meetings with airport users and neighborhood citizens to receive input regarding the airport.
- Develop recommendations and forward suggested solutions regarding issues such as airport development activities, airport improvements and mitigation of off-site impacts such as noise to the appropriate officials.
- Act as a liaison between Pierce County and the City of Tacoma regarding airport issues.
