The Department of Ecology oversees adoption of local shoreline master programs as part of their mandate to administer the Shoreline Management Act. There is also a link to DOE?s information on how to complete this SMP update process, and other useful technical information.

In its commitment to provide technical assistance throughout the SMP update process, Ecology will meet with County staff to present and discuss approaches to shoreline characterizations prior to conducting the inventory and analysis work. Ecology will provide ongoing technical assistance on data sources and approaches and will evaluate consistency of products with the Shoreline Management Act and applicable guidelines. The County shall provide Ecology opportunities for review of draft products at appropriate intervals, and will regularly use Ecology's SMP Submittal Checklist as a tool for documenting progress on the SMP update process, completing relevant portions of the checklist when deliverables are submitted to Ecology.
