Comprehensive Plan Amendments
The Pierce County Comprehensive Plan, originally adopted in November 1994, is a policy document which guides growth and future land use decisions in Pierce County. The Plan was developed to address growth over a 20-year period.
Every two years, the Pierce County Council considers requests for amendments to the Comprehensive Plan. Four types of amendment requests may be submitted: text amendments to change policies or other language in the Comprehensive Plan; community plan amendments to change policies or other language in adopted community plans; area-wide map amendments to change the land use designation and zoning for a group of parcels; and urban growth area amendments to adjust an urban growth boundary. The Staff Report and Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement for the 2007 amendments was issued on July 24, 2007. To review the document, click here. The amendments were adopted by the Pierce County Council in October 2007 in Ordinance No. 2007-86s. The next review cycle will occur in 2009, when the Council will consider amendment requests submitted in December 2008 and early January 2009.
