The purpose of the Pierce County Rivers Flood Hazard Management Plan is to recommend regional policies, programs, and projects that:
- reduce the risks to public health and safety;
- reduce public and private property damage from major river flooding and channel migration; and
- reduce river maintenance costs and maintain or improve habitat conditions.
The flood plan will be developed using the best available technical information, an inclusive stakeholder process, and careful analysis of level-of-service and funding options. It will also consider economic, social and cultural contexts, the existing regulatory framework, and relevant legal agreements.
