What is the Solid Waste Advisory Committee?

The Pierce County Solid Waste Advisory Committee (SWAC) serves in an advisory and technical capacity to Pierce County on matters relating to solid waste disposal (trash) and recycling.

The Committee is comprised of fifteen voting members plus four non-voting members. There are currently vacancies on the SWAC.

What does the SWAC do?

The SWAC is now updating the County's Solid Waste Management Plan, which helps decide what programs come to your neighborhood and how to pay for them. Discussions to date have included electronics recycling, 'green' building', food waste recycling, and mandatory collection programs.

What has the SWAC worked on in the past?

Past SWAC members played key roles in the creation of the popular Pierce County Responds and single-cart recycling programs.
