Chemical Dependency prevention and treatment are programs of Pierce County Human Services. The Chemical Dependency Programs contract with various agencies in the community to provide full or partially subsidized treatment services for low income and indigent residents of Pierce County, and prevention services for all citizens. Programs target high-risk and underserved cultural/ethnic populations and geographic areas.
The programs also provide non-treatment services regardless of income. These services include involuntary commitment for alcohol/drug treatment; child care for parents while in treatment; injecting drug user outreach; and community education, assessment & referral.
The prevention program involves several activities which focus on creating and promoting healthy communities that deter individuals from substance abuse. This can be achieved by involving community members, businesses, agencies, organizations, churches, schools, and youth in the determination of community based activities that reduce risk factors and promote protective factors.
Prevention services include planning, community assessment, resource development, training, technical assistance, and contracting for services.
Primary funding for all services comes from the Washington State Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse (DASA).
