Dear Friend:

Pierce County and the City of Tacoma are partnering this year to ensure that the fourth biennial Livable Communities Fair will be bigger and better than ever. The event is scheduled to take place May 17, 2008, at the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall and we need your help.

This educational summit is an opportunity for organizations and citizens to connect and engage in maintaining, improving and sustaining the livable qualities of our communities.

The fair, similar to a home show or garden show, is an expo of exciting interactive booths, workshops, and speakers, showcasing practical ways people can improve the quality of their lives. Many of the organizations and non-profits participating will be looking for volunteers. We encourage you to get involved and help make Pierce County a better place to live, work, and play.

Government alone can't keep everyone healthy, happy and safe. We need to work together. That's where you come in. This is a great opportunity for businesses and organizations to help sponsor the fair and its attractions. It takes sponsors and partners to make this fair happen. We invite you to be a part of the 2008 fair by donating cash or in-kind services.

You can also participate by sponsoring a booth. The fair will welcome just about any livable/sustainable idea that benefits neighborhoods and communities. All participants have an opportunity to provide information and educate the public on topics such as recycling, low impact development, affordable housing, roads/transit, emergency preparedness, public safety, clean environment, recreation, and other community programs.

The first fair held in 2002, was an outstanding example of cooperation. Public and private organizations filled the Tacoma Narrows Airport hangar and more than 5,000 adults and children attended. The second and third fairs were held in Parkland and Puyallup, where the attendance more than doubled. If each attendee takes one small action as a result of the fair, then ten thousand people will be 'Changing the World', one fair at a time.

We hope you'll accept our invitation to help bring this fun, free, educational experience to the citizens of Tacoma and Pierce County.
