PTS is responsible for providing Pierce County Corrections and Detention Center (PCCDC) with criminal history data for every inmate booked into the County Jail. This enables PCCDC to properly classify and house inmates to ensure minimal risk to the inmate as well as to the PCCDC employees.

This classification is done in compliance with Federal Court Order C95-5025 FDB.

PTS is responsible for both in and out of custody indigency screening to determine if a defendant is eligible for Department of Assigned Counsel representation (public defender). This screening is provided for all adult criminal courts including felony and misdemeanor. In order to apply, applicants need to present specific information to the screeners.

PTS is authorized to conduct pre-arraignment Personal Recognizance Releases (PR) on defendants booked into PCCDC on most gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor charges.
