Acceptable items for U.S. Mail delivery to inmates include: letters, money orders, cashier's checks, photographs, newspaper clippings, written documents forwarded for signature and legal mail between attorney and inmate. New paperback books or magazines may be shipped directly from the publisher, distributor, bookstore or internet bookseller, They may not be sent directly from an individual. Limit 3 at one time.

Any items considered contraband will result in the envelope and its contents being returned to sender or investigated for criminal violation.

Inmates classified as Level 1 or Level 2 are not allowed magazines, newpapers, or articles clipped from those sources unless they directly pertain to their cases.

The following is a list of items and reasons why mail would be returned to sender:

- Address labels / stickers
- Blank cards and postcards
- Cash or personal checks
- Stamps, stamped items, paper, envelopes. Inmates must purchase these items from commissary.
- Coupons and gambling items
- All colored paper, including envelopes and greeting cards
- Excessive puzzle or coloring pages (limit 10 per envelope)
- Food items
- Glued items, glitter, gel pens; metallic ink
- Racist or other inflammatory materials, including gang symbols and hand gestures
- Sexually explicit materials; nude/semi-nude photos, including babies and children
- Inmate to inmate correspondence
- Lipstick, perfume, cologne, or scented items
- Polaroid pictures with backings
- Stickers, string, ribbon, confetti, white out
- Plastic, laminated items, cardboard, metal items, foil, paper clips, staples
- Tobacco or tobacco products
- Unknown substances on paper, envelopes, photos
- Unsigned or blank money orders. These need to be completed and signed legibly by purchaser/sender
