Booking Officers have a range of responsibilities. They make the initial contact with an arrestee once the street officer brings them into the jail. The booking officer verifies that charging information is correctly entered into the computer. They assist in the initial medical/mental health screening, account for personal property, and elicit personal information from the arrestee so that information entered is accurate and up to date.
Booking Officers also monitor other I/Ms in the booking area in the various stages of processing. They ensure all prisoners are fed, if applicable, and are assigned to appropriate housing. Reports are written for unusual or significant events or observations.
