The Pierce County Sheriff's Department Honor Guard is comprised of eleven talented and very dedicated members of Pierce County Law Enforcement. The unit was established in 1975 and has progressed into a well-respected and recognized organization.
Members of the Honor Guard come from almost every division of the Sheriff's Department including patrol, traffic, corrections, and investigations. Our highly acclaimed piper, Paul McNeil, comes to us from the Steilacoom Department of Public Safety.
The Honor Guards' primary duty is to perform at public functions, deputy commissioning ceremonies, promotional ceremonies and the many Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremonies held all over Western Washington, which occur each year in May. The Honor Guard is also the primary unit within the Department that is called upon in the event of the death of a current or former Department member.
Recently the Honor Guard assisted the Tacoma-Pierce County Chaplaincy in hosting a Line of Duty Death Seminar designed to train other police agencies in the intricacies of planning a memorial and handling the details in the event of a death of an officer in the line of duty.
The Honor Guard has been represented at the National Law Enforcement Memorial Week, in Washington D.C., each year since 1995.
