The Pierce County Sheriff's Department wants you for their Cadet Program if you are:

- A young adult 15 to 21 years old

- An enthusiastic and motivated person

- A person with a positive attitude

- Interested in a career in Law Enforcement

- A student with a GPA of 2.25 or greater

- Able to follow rules and regulations

- Able to purchase a uniform within 8 weeks of acceptance

- Able to pass a background investigation and an oral interview

- A person with no serious criminal background and a good driving record (if applicable)

- Able to attend weekly meetings and donate a minimum of 10 volunteer hours per month

- Willing to attend one of the two WLEEAA Academies per year

- Able to commit to NO alcohol and drug use

- A person who likes to have FUN!

The purpose of the Pierce County Sheriff's Department Cadet Program is to familiarize young adults between the age of 15 and 21 with the procedures and qualifications of the Pierce County Sheriff's Department. It is also designed to attract those interested in a law enforcement career while promoting communication and understanding between the Sheriff's Department personnel and the community.

Cadet Mission Statement:

The Mission of the Pierce County Sheriff's Department Cadet Program is to establish an environment where all Cadets can obtain a general knowledge and understanding of a career in the law enforcement field while providing a service to the residents of Pierce County with high expectations of quality and unrelenting enthusiasm.

Academies - There are two academies held per year where Cadets receive training from various Law Enforcement professionals. Cadets are required to attend one per year.

Community Service - Cadets do events such as fingerprinting children, traffic control, security for special events, and more.

Competitions/Conferences - There are several competitions that the Cadet Program participate in where the Cadets can test their skills. There are also regional and national conferences held which the Cadet program attends.

Ride-Alongs - Once Cadets are certified they can go on ride-alongs with Deputies. This gives Cadets a first hand look at a career in Law Enforcement.

Walk-Alongs - Provides an eligible Cadet with a first-hand view of a Correctional Officer's duties in the Pierce County Jail.

Weekly Meetings - The Cadet Program has weekly meetings, which are currently held on Sundays at 4:00 pm (subject to change). During these meetings, Cadets receive training from Deputies on various topics of Law Enforcement.
