Detective Sergeant Todd Karr
Detective Sergeant Todd Karr exhibited exceptional performance while assigned to the Violent Crimes Task Force, and when he was transferred to the Robbery/Assault Unit, he continued at this same level of service. Additionally, Det. Sgt. Karr is credited for his expertise and insight into the investigation of officer involved shootings and his leadership in the Robbery/Assault Unit. He eagerly mentors the less experienced detectives, and his advice is sought by all.

Corrections Officer Heidi Nishi
Corrections Officer Heidi Nishi has excelled as a Central Control Operator. While in that position, she developed an Emergency Operations Manual, Emergency Call-out Procedure, and a written test for the Central Control Room. Additionally, C/O Nishi volunteered for recruiting photos and television appearances to assist in the Department's recruiting efforts.

Office Assistant II Jan Rose
During the greater part of 2007, Office Assistant II Jan Rose worked not only her primary job but also handled the responsibilities of Administrative Aide to the Chief of Corrections. Staffing shortages at the jail required OA Rose to work in this dual role from January to August 2007. During this time OA Rose maintained a very friendly and professional demeanor in the face of great demand for her services. Her 'superior job performance is a reflection of the CORE Values of Respect and Responsibility'.

Dr. Thomas Babson and Dr. Jeffrey Morse
Both Dr. Thomas Babson and Dr. Jeffrey Morse completed the Reserve Law Enforcement Academy in 2007, volunteering over 300 hours to do so. Both doctors did this while working their normal professional duties. Dr. Babson is a team doctor for the Clandestine Lab Team and Dr. Morse is a team doctor for SWAT. Since graduating, the doctors have continued to serve and train with the special teams and together have volunteered over 1,000 hours of service to the citizens of Pierce County.

Volunteer Donna Shuey has worked in the Peninsula Detachment for over 5 years and has contributed over 1,275 hours of time to the Sheriff's Department. Additionally, 'She has been very dependable and always has a positive attitude'. Donna's many years in the local community has been a help in her tasks of working with the public at the window and answering the phones. 'She brightens our days and makes sure the work goes smoothly.'

Cadet Kevin Pressel
Cadet Lt. Kevin Pressel has been a member of the cadet program since 2002. He continuously devotes many hours of time and his energy to the program. In 2007 he donated 310 hours of service, the most in the program. Cadet Lt. Pressel's dedication, professionalism and pride in the cadet program and the Sheriff's Department are evident in everything he does.

Deputy Prosecuting Attorney James Schacht
Deputy Prosecuting Attorney James Schacht was the lead prosecutor in two cases of shootings involving law enforcement officers. As a result of his thorough preparation, the court convicted the offender of the attempted murder of a Puyallup Police Officer, and was sentenced to 45 years in prison. In another case, the court found the offender guilty of Assault in the First Degree for shooting at a Pierce County Deputy, and was sentenced to 42 years in prison. DPA Schacht has a well deserved reputation as being a superb trial attorney and is frequently assigned the more difficult cases. 'He respects law enforcement and is a pleasure to work with.'

Dispatcher Kris Johnson has the uncanny ability to process information that is quickly coming at her from multiple sources while retaining where deputies are and who their closest backup is. Her confident demeanor during critical situations can be very reassuring to the deputies who count on her to be their conduit of information.
