The Sewer Utility continues to expand its sanitary sewer system and the Chambers Creek Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant (CCRWWTP) to respond to growth and provide service to the urban growth areas of the County. To effectively provide this service we must manage investments in both existing and future assets to best meet our customer's needs and expectations. The Utility accomplishes this through the application of strategic planning and asset management practices and timely infrastructure construction.
Asset Management is a continuous process that guides the acquisition, use, and disposal of an infrastructure asset or assets in order to optimize service delivery and minimize the cost of the asset over its service life. The Sewer Utility's asset management strategy is structured around three principles:
- Customer Service
- Asset Life Cycles and Risk Management
- Life Cycle Costing
Documents such as Pierce County's Unified Sewer Plan, and the CCRWWTP Facilities Plan are the management tools and road maps used by the Asset Manager to track Current Projects and project future construction needs ranging from new interceptor pipelines to large scale expansions of the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The Unified Sewer Plan and the Facilities Plan are in the beginning stages of planned five year updates. Check back on the Unified Sewer Plan page for planned meetings, and workshops in late 2008.
Pierce County's continuing Asset Management Strategy will be to ensure that desired levels of service and operational objectives are achieved at the best possible cost to the customer.
