The Pierce County Department of Public Works and Utilities is developing a Facilities Plan and accompanying Environmental Impact Statement or EIS to review any and all impacts that future expansion of the Chambers Creek Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) may have on the existing and surrounding area. The Facility Plan and EIS will guide the Utility in the design, construction and future upgrades of the Chambers Creek Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant over the next 30 years.
The primary purpose of the Chambers Creek facility is to treat sewage flows from the approved sewer service basin. This basin consists mainly of the County Urban Growth Areas in unincorporated urban areas not within another approved sewer service area.
The Pierce County Sewer Service Basin covers 117 square miles and consists of the cities of Lakewood, University Place, DuPont, Milton, and the unincorporated urban areas of Parkland, Spanaway, South Hill, Frederickson, Fife Heights, Graham, Brown's Point/Dash Point, Sunrise, and Cascadia. Contract sewer services are also provided to the Town of Steilacoom and to portions of the cities of Tacoma, Fife, and Edgewood.
To facilitate the expansion an Environmental Impact Statement has been prepared to address the possible impacts to the existing WWTP and surrounding area. The Utility has held public meetings and sent out over 300 notices to surrounding landowners advising of the proposed expansion of the WWTP.
The Utility welcomes all comments pertaining to the EIS, please address them to Steve Kamieniecki Sewer Utility Senior Planner by e-mail, by telephone at 253-798-3094, or by fax at 253-798-2570.
