Following is a list of a few of the many programs which Wellness facilitates for Pierce County employees.
The Wellness Works Newsletter, published monthly on-line, includes topics such as making healthy food choices, exercise tips, stress management, health screenings, living a healthy lifestyle, and more. The current issue, and one year of back issues, are available to employees on the employee intranet, 'My Pierce County'. Employees may print a copy from the web, or request a paper copy from the Wellness Coordinator, to share with family members.
Weight Watchers at Work meetings are held during noon time at convenient locations near County work sites.
A Wellness Resource Loaning Library is maintained where employees can request information on a specific health topic.
Individualized Fitness Programs: Information is provided to assist those employees who are interested in starting a fitness program. Program design is for those who want to exercise on their own or join a fitness facility.
Nutritional Lifestyle Consultation: One-on-one sessions designed to meet the employee's needs.
Ergonomics--Healthy Back Online Training Do you have any back discomfort while sitting in your work chair? The objective of this on-line course is to develop a basic understanding of back mechanics and techniques for healthy postures. The benefit of this on-line course is attending without leaving your office.

Office Ergonomic Assessments: The Wellness Coordinator is available to visit work locations and conduct office workstation ergonomic assessments. This includes doing a comprehensive assessment of the work station, including assessing the computer work station (chair, keyboard tray, telephone, etc.)
Information Bulletin Boards are located in most departments - current health, recreational opportunities and community events are posted for the employees' information.
Telephone Consultation and Referral: The Wellness Coordinator is available to assist employees and their family members with health-related questions and concerns.
Tour de Pierce Bicycle Ride, which is open to the public and fun for the whole family, is held annually in June. This event is sponsored by Pierce County Parks and Recreation and facilitated with the help of the Wellness Coordinator.
Health Screenings: A speaker bureau is available for seminars on a variety of health topics. Speakers can accommodate a small or large setting and seminars can be held during lunch or in the evening. Recent events sponsored by Wellness include: a lunch-time nutrition talk, and Headache Talks.
Worksite Health Screenings: Nurses from a local hospital are available to conduct blood pressure checks and cholesterol screenings. Osteoporosis screenings are offered annually.
Flu Vaccinations On-site: A nurse will visit work sites each fall to administer flu vaccinations for a minimal fee. Family members are invited to participate.
Fitness opportunities such as Yoga Classes and waived joining fee for the YMCA during a specified open enrollment period.
