ASSETS (Administrative Support Staff Excellence Training Series) is a flexible, rigorous and accessible learning path that encourages a standard set of skills for Pierce County administrative support staff including, but not limited to, Office Assistants, Legal Assistants, Administrative Aides, Confidential Secretaries, and Administrative Assistants. This program can provide supervisors and managers with a convenient and flexible tool for developing employees, increasing organizational skills levels and providing opportunity generate and engage new ideas in the workplace. When the course work and project for the Basic ASSETS Series are completed, the employee will receive a certificate of completion signed by the Manager of Organizational Development and Training and the employee's department Director. The Advanced ASSETS Series certificate will include the signature of the Pierce County Executive.

Each series, basic and advanced, contains required courses, electives and a project. The required courses are intended to create a standard base of knowledge and skills for Pierce County employees. Electives provide the flexibility for an employee and work unit to tailor the learning to specific needs. The project is designed to bring the new skills back to the workplace. Projects are to be determined by the student and supervisor, and may be in any area of tthe core or elected currirulum. It is intended that the project will be implemented in the workplace. Completed projects are presented to the supervisor and manager with a brief written summary that will be kept on record at Organizational Development and Training.

The project is intended to bring the newly learned skills into the workplace. It can be linked to any of the coursework, required or elective, and should be chosen inconsultation with the participant's supervisor to make it useful for the workplace.

The project should be written as a narrative (2-3 pages, using the Project Form) which describes the project intent, the implementation phase, and impact on the business process.

The project for the Advanced ASSETS will include the brief narrative in addition to a graphic display (story boar, PowerPoint, etc), and an oral presentation to asmall audience which includes the department director or manager and supervisor.

Phase I--Written Narative
- Identifies project need
- Describes the project plan which is linked to coursework, and includes a timeline
- Outlines expected outcomes

At this point the project should include your supervisor's signature of agreement and be approved by ODT staff.

Phase II--Outcome Report
- Describes implementation
- Impact--Includes a plan to educate users of the project, i.e. storyboard, poster, electronic announcement, staff presentation, flyer or brochure, demonstration.

Phase II may be submitted to Organizational Development and Training at any point during the program. Keep a copy of the project for your personal records until Certificate of Completion is received.


Phase I--Written Narative

- Describes the project plan which is linked to Project Management coursework, and includes a timeline
- Outlines expected outcomes

Phase II--Outcome Report
- Describes implementation, including timeline
- Impact, both initial measurement and measurement of impact 3 months after implementation with supporting data
- Includes a poster or storyboard - Oral presentation to a small group, including department director or manager and supervisor.

Phase II may be submitted to Organizational Development and Training at any point during the program. Keep a copy of the project for your personal records until Certificate of Completion is received.
