Pierce County's Employee Incentive and Recognition (EI&R) program promotes teamwork and rewards employees for service, initiative, innovation, and excellence in the achievement of the County goals. It began, and has remained, an employee driven effort that has retained the support of the organization and the community. It is rooted in the goals of the organization; is results oriented; and promotes customer service, productivity, teamwork, employee involvement, pride, motivation and self esteem. Highlights of the program include the annual Employee Recognition Banquet and the Awards Program.

Employee Recognition Banquet
During Employee Recognition Week, the second week in November, the Employee Incentive and Recognition Steering Committee provides a forum to showcase the many accomplishments of Pierce County both locally and nationally. The Employee Recognition Banquet is organized by employees who volunteer their time and energy to recognize the exceptional employees within the Pierce County organization. The committee feels that it is important to take time to say 'thank you' for the dedication, initiative, knowledge and professionalism that have helped Pierce County provide quality service to our residents. At the banquet, the County honors those employees who have given 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 (plus) years of service to the County, as well as recognizing those outstanding awards, accomplishments and recognitions earned by County departments.

Awards
The Kudos Award promotes recognition and appreciation between employees, increases morale, encourages employee participation in County activities, and increases communication throughout the County. Any employee can give a Kudos certificate to another employee to recognize excellence, innovation, creativity, customer service, teamwork, etc. Kudos recipients are entered into a monthly drawing and the winner is recognized in the County Line and on the County Intranet. A grand prize drawing among all Kudos holders is also held at the annual Employee Recognition Banquet.
In 2000, a committee made up of Employee Incentive and Recognition Steering Committee members created the framework for a new employee recognition award, the Standing Ovation Award, as a way of recognizing the excellence, quality and extraordinary efforts of Pierce County employees. This award acknowledges them for their outstanding efforts which make Pierce County a better place to live and work. Employees can be nominated for this award, annually, in one of six categories: Customer Service, Partnership, Diversity, Innovation, Leadership and Change Champions. The Employee Incentive and Recognition Program is a model for other organizations' employee recognition programs and has made a difference in our organization and in our community.
