Overview:
Both of our offices are located in downtown Tacoma near the intersection of South 9th Street and Tacoma Avenue South, across the street from the County-City Building. Our Main Office is in the Merit Building at 615 South 9th Street. Half a block away on the corner, the Organizational Development and Training Center is located in the Hess Building at 901 Tacoma Avenue South.


Merit Building

Merit Building
Services available at our main office include Employment, Civil Service (Sheriff's Department Employment), Labor Relations, Employee Benefits, and Administration.

Directions:
From I-5, take exit 133 and follow the signs to the City Center exit. Go north on 'A' Street several blocks until you reach South 9th Street. Turn left and go up the 9th Street hill several blocks to South 'G' Street and turn right. Our main office is located in the Merit Building at 615 South 9th Street. It is directly across 9th Street from the County-City Building and the Pierce County Jail.

Parking:
After turning right on South 'G' Street, turn into the first driveway, which is the parking lot for the Merit Building. Visitor parking is available on the right side of the parking lot directly behind the building and next to the windows. Visitor parking is clearly marked. After parking, walk back around the corner of the building and enter the building from the 9th Street side.

If visitor parking is unavailable, there is a public parking garage at South 9th Street and Yakima Avenue, which is one block up the 9th Street hill from 'G' Street. The garage will be across the street on your left at the light.

In addition, limited parking is available to Pierce County employees in the Intergovernmental Parking Lot which has been relocated to the paved surface lot between Tacoma Avenue and Court 'E'. Access is through the alley (Court 'E') between Tacoma Avenue and Fawcett Avenue. Spaces 1-19 are designated as IG spaces. The spaces are identifiable by 'IG' stenciling and blue lines. Yellow IG tags are still required. County employees can request an IG tag from their department.

Building Entrance:
The Main Office is located at 615 South 9th Street. Enter the building from the 9th Street Side. You will be at the Garage Level. Take the elevator or stairs up two floors to the second floor. We are located in Suite 200 to your immediate right after entering the 2nd floor.

Hess Building

Hess Building
Our Training Center provides training for County employees and, by prior arrangement, training to employees of other governments in the region through the TRAIN consortium.
Directions:
From I-5, take exit 133 and follow the signs to the City Center exit. Go north on 'A' Street several blocks until you reach South 9th Street. Turn left and go up the 9th Street hill several blocks to Tacoma Avenue South. The Hess Building is on the left corner at the light at South 9th Street and Tacoma Avenue South.

Parking:
For visits of one hour or less, there is angle parking on the street on Tacoma Avenue South in front of the building.

For longer visits, New Employee Orientation, or if on-street parking is unavailable, there is a public parking garage at South 9th Street and Yakima Avenue, which is two more blocks up the 9th Street hill. The garage will be across the street on your left at the light.
