Meridian Habitat Park and Community Center will hosts free performances on Sunday evenings from 4:00-5:00 p.m. The concerts include a wide range of music including acoustic solo performances to a full choir. Storytelling at its best will also be a featured presentation. Here is the schedule.

Matt Lockhart Guitar Concert
Sunday, January 13

Matt Lockhart, local musician and instructor, along with guitarist Chase Cope, will present an acoustic guitar concert including original and familiar songs. Their fusion of music styles will make this performance one to remember. Don't miss this one time performance.

Allen African Methodist Episcopal Church Concert
Sunday, February 24

The oldest black church in Pierce County will provide an enjoyable afternoon of music ranging from spirituals to contemporary gospel. The music department of Allen A.M.E. Church has performed throughout the Puget Sound region, including the State Capitol, Washington State History Museum and the City of Tacoma?s Annual Martin Luther King program. Don't miss this opportunity to hear their 111 year history through this uplifting usic presentation.

Pierce College Puyallup Concert Choir
Sunday, March 9

The Pierce College Puyallup Concert Choir, under director Kenneth Owen, is a college ensemble that is also open to community members. The choir sings a musical repertoire that includes multicultural influence and historical depth. During the presentation, the choir will take listeners on a musical tour from renaissance England, through Russian liturgical music, and Zulu folk music, to a selection from a Brazilian Psalm. Pierce College's new elite ensemble, Chamber Singers, will round out the program with music by prominent choral composers from the United States.

Bonnie Anderson Storytelling
Sunday, April 13

Bonnie Anderson, local children's librarian and storyteller extraordinaire, will share her stories and story telling technique with her audience. She received her Master's Degree in Librarian Services from the University of Washington and has taken and taught many storytelling workshops and classes.

As part of her story telling with young children, she incorporates early literacy and pre-reading skills. 'Did you know that rhythm and songs helps children hear syllables in words It's important as children learn to recognize sounds, as well as just having plain fun.' This hour presentation will go by quickly as Bonnie tells stories, sings songs, demonstrates finger plays and gives some good information for parents to use at home.

The Valley Chorale
Sunday, May 18

The Valley Arts Society was formed in 1994 to educate and increase interest of the general public in various types of quality music and drama. The Valley Chorale is one part of this group. The Valley Chorale will present a lively presentation of 'How the West Was Sung.' Songs included in the performance will be from musicals, American folk and western songs, blue grass and ballads. Sit back and enjoy the music!
