A new selection process maybe held in 2010. For more information, please call 253-798-4009.

APPLICATION REVIEW

If the Pierce County Council authorizes a selection process, the application process starts with a newspaper notice the last week in March of each year. The Sponsor may pick up the Project Proposal application at the Pierce County Parks & Recreation office after April 1st of each year or download it at anytime. The completed application and presentation materials must be returned to the Parks & Recreation Services office by mid May of each year. The review process begins in June of each year.

The completed Project Proposal application is submitted to Pierce County Parks and Recreation and is forwarded to the Conservation Futures Program Staff. Each project proposal will be reviewed by the following three bodies:

  • Technical Advisory Committee
  • Citizens Advisory Board
  • Pierce County Council

PUBLIC PRESENTATIONS

The Sponsor will be notified by Conservation Futures staff as to when they will present their projects to the Citizens' Advisory Board in an open public meeting forum. At the public meeting, the Sponsor is asked to describe the property's attributes and allow public testimony within a 20 minute presentation. Following the presentation is a 10 minute question and answer session with the Citizens' Advisory Board. Each public meeting averages 2-3 presentations a night during the months of July and August.

The Sponsor is responsible for all hand out material (copies for each Board member) before the scheduled presentation. Presentation can include a slide show, over-head projector and screen, easels, podium, Power Point presentation, and aerials/pictures.

Upon completion of the presentation, each project will be rated, prioritized and forwarded to the Pierce County Council. Each sponsor will receive a project rating and review along with the dates of County Council hearings to examine the results.
