Lake Spanaway Golf Course

Premier Golf logo On-line Tee Times, Specials and Promotions are managed through Premier Golf.

Premier Golf operates the golf club house operation and provides concessionaire services to both Lake Spanaway and Fort Steilacoom golf courses.

LSGC Lake Spanaway Golf Course is built on a site acquired in 1959 from the Metropolitan Park District and additional property purchased in 1961 from Gus Breseman. These two properties were added to the other properties acquired which made up the 450-acre Spanaway Park Development Plan. The plan proposed to develop significant recreational improvements to the area including a park site, a recreation center, a regulation 9 hole par 3 course, driving range and clubhouse.

On January 5, 1965 the Board of Pierce County Commissioners signed Resolution #10598 providing for the issuance and sale of obligation bonds in the amount of $1.5 million dollars, securing the funding for the development of the park, golf course and recreation center. In June of that year, the county contracted O.R. Chase and Ken Tyson to construct and operate a golf course. The course was designed by the renowned golf course architect, A.V. Macan and facilities were designed my E.L. Mills & Associates.

It is the result of these and other actions over 30 years that we now enjoy the beautiful and challenging golf course at Lake Spanaway. We celebrate the efforts of many individuals during the past 38 years, but perhaps none more than Tom Cross, the Director of Pierce County Parks and Recreation from 1958 to 1981, and Superintendent of Parks, Lorne 'Shorty' Campbell. It was Tom's vision, leadership and commitment to this plan that gave us the golf course we all enjoy today.

The course was dedicated for 'the enjoyment of residents of Pierce County' on March 31, 1967 and opened to the public the next day. Today, almost 40 years later, you will enjoy the fruits of many individuals' hard work and dedication to the cause of providing the citizens of Pierce County and beyond, a truly majestic golf course. Lake Spanaway is among the top golf facilities available in the Pacific Northwest. We take pride in it's daily presentation to you the golfer, our most valued customer.

As Premier starts its fourth year of managing the County Golf Facilities, it has started many exciting programs that are sure to meet your golfing needs. There a re new lesson programs, new weekly and monthly specials on green fees, food and beverages, range, and golf carts. Look for our new evening leagues as a place to have some low key weekly competition and meet new friends at the same time.

The Maintenance Team is excited to report that the aerification has been completed at both golf courses. We even put down extra sand on the greens? approaches. This year we used our new fairway aerifier to punch the fairways and tees. This will allow for better drainage this fall and winter. It has 2 inch square spacing which is twice as close as our old aerifier so we should see much better results.
The pond on #11 at Lake Spanaway has been turned into a natural area. It will be played as 'Ground Under Repair' until the grass emerges and is playable sometime later this Fall.

Premier has reinstituted Senior Rates on Fridays at Lake Spanaway. Tee times are taken 7 days in advance.

Golf Shop big news! We have finished installing new carpet and we moved the counter back to its original location on the North side of the golf shop! It is a much cleaner look and will give the staff a better view of the 1st and 10th tees. After rearranging the shop we also discovered that there is more room this way so it really changes the look of the shop. Come in and check it out, I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised.

Look for some really good sales and specials this month to entice you all to come in and shop. We have also updated our phone system providing better customer service to all who call!

The 3,520 square foot clubhouse consists of a pro shop plus a full service restaurant and bar that is open from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm (times may vary dependant upon weather conditions). The fully stocked pro shop has all your golfing needs, including top of the line clubs, putters, bags, shoes, balls, men's and women's clothing. Come in and have your clubs professionally fit for your swing.

Dinner is really 'Cooking'!
With the driving ranges extended hours, and with the Restaurant at Lake Spanaway Golf Course staying open longer with a full Dinner Menu it is a great place to stop if you're on way home from work and want to get out of the traffic, stop by Lake Spanaway Golf Course restaurant for a great hot meal. Prices are great, but the food is even better!
