Many El CID clients face challenging life issues, such as homelessness, substance abuse and lack of education, which contribute to poor life choices. Under the supervision and guidance of two experienced diversion counselors, most clients gain the confidence and skills they need to succeed. Here are just a few of their stories.
Chris A.* is a high school drop out who was arrested for Minor in Possession of Alcohol. With the support of his diversion counselor he is working on obtaining a GED and has inspired his father, who is illiterate, to get his GED as well.
Sherry R.' is a mother of four in her late 20's. She was arrested for Theft in the First Degree and Forgery after stealing, forging and cashing checks from a place of business. With the guidance of her diversion counselor, Sherry obtained her GED and ultimately completed a healthcare degree.
Michael S.* was arrested for Theft in the Second Degree after stealing over $800 worth of clothing from Macy's department store. He told the arresting officer he did it 'on a whim'. While in the El CID program he dealt with tough life issues and worked to improve his relationship with his 4 year old son.
