CountyView, Information Services GIS division. This desktop Geographical Information System software program is used by more than 250 staff in 17 departments and three outside agencies. CountyView provides data access to more than 200 themes of data and provides customized functionality for specialized locates, census query, owner notification and a five-scale road atlas. It received the 1998 URISA Exemplary Systems in Government award in the corporate systems category.

The Geographic Information Services Division was also selected to receive the first annual ESRI (Environmental System Research Institute) 'Special Achievement in GIS' award for the State of Washington in 1998. This award was given to 87 GIS sites around the world in recognition of their outstanding work in the GIS field.

Geographic Information Services Division received the URISA (Urban and Regional Information Systems Association) 1998 'Exemplary Systems in Government' (ESIG) award in the corporate system category for Pierce County's desktop GIS system CountyView. The judges stated CountyView is an excellent example of a system designed to fulfill an overwhelming need for information system development and utilization for planning, management and operation purposes, as well as for better access to government records.

The Geographic Information Services Division was awarded the NACIO (National Association of County Information Officers), 1998 'Best of Class' award for their application 'Map-Your-Way', and for excellence in the Computer Media category for Internet/Intranet web sites and interactive media.
