The Juvenile Division prosecutes all offenders between the ages of 8 and 17 who commit felonies and misdemeanors within Pierce County. This division works in collaboration with members from law enforcement, Juvenile Probation, the Clerk's Office and Juvenile Court to professionally handle a large volume of cases, ranging from traffic offenses to homicides.
In 2012, the Juvenile Division received more than 3,600 cases for review. Of these cases, 1,400 were charged and 2,200 were referred to the Probation Department’s Diversion Unit for intervention and services.
In an effort to handle the complex and sensitive issues presented by sexual assault, the Juvenile Division has a designated deputy prosecutor with specialized training to prosecute these cases. With the tireless efforts of victim advocates, these vulnerable victims and their families receive the support and assistance they need.
