Pierce County Ferry

Sept. 25 ferry update, 1:50 p.m.

The Pierce County Ferry will be back on schedule with the 2:20 p.m. run. The generator has been repaired by the vendor.

Background: The ferry missed the noon run Monday, Sept. 25 after one of the Christine Anderson’s two generators malfunctioned.

The Steilacoom II remains out of service following an issue with its propulsion system on Friday, Sept. 22. We ordered parts Friday. If they come in today as expected, the Steilacoom II should be repaired by mid-day Tuesday.

About the Pierce County Ferry

The Pierce County Ferry provides service between the town of Steilacoom and Anderson and Ketron islands. All fares are roundtrip and are collected at the Steilacoom Terminal.

The ferry operates seven days a week and service alternates between the M.V. Christine Anderson - which can hold 54 cars and 250 passengers - and the M.V. Steilacoom II, which has a capacity of 54 cars and 300 passengers.

The trip between Anderson Island and Steilacoom is about 3.5 miles, and takes approximately 30 minutes. Departures from Ketron Island are by reservation only on select runs.

Pierce County contracts with HMS Ferries to operate and manage the ferry system.
