Petitioners with stepparent adoptions can complete their adoptions without the assistance of an attorney but are considered to be representing themselves (pro se). If the adoption will be contested or the whereabouts of one of the birth parents is not known, please retain an adoption attorney.
This website will discuss the procedure for adoptions with a consenting parent. Pierce County Adoptions can provide some procedural assistance but cannot give legal advice.
Copies of the legal forms can be obtained by emailing the Adoption Coordinator or at the Pierce County Law Library in the County-City Building at:
930 Tacoma Ave. S.
Tacoma, WA 98402
There is a nominal fee to copy these forms.
There are paralegal and online businesses that will create the forms for you. Check them out carefully before hiring them. Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG) will create the forms for stepparent adoptions for military personnel at no charge.
